Bob's Country, This Of Thee

I just became one of the many who have tried Country Bob's All-Purpose Sauce and have loved it. From the moment the box appeared on my doorstep, I've been pouring it on everything imaginable. I resisted the urge to put it in a cake batter. Seriously. And don't think I won't try it. Stay tuned, kids.

But it took a while for it to get to me. About 5 months ago, I was contacted by the company to do a product review. I'd just moved, and you know how little kids are afraid Santa won't find your house...because you're spending it at Grandma's? I felt the same way. My package never arrived.

I was sad, seeing others review the sauce. Seeing the saucy brown nectar, being dribbled over chicken, fries and steak...just as advertised on the bottle made me feel empty inside.

After another email exchange, I finally got my package!

The sauce starts out like ketchup then gradually upgrades to a BBQ-esque sauce with sweet undertones. It's slightly spicy, a little tangy, and reminds me of Heinz 57 with more molasses, brown sugar, and tamarind.

I will say that after doing a furtive search, the closest Country Bob's retailer is a Wal-Mart...50 miles away. But the Web site has a store where you can order the sauce. That's what I plan on doing when the last of the 2nd bottle has been poured out.

First, I put it on cornmeal crusted fries.

Then a oven roasted chicken sandwich.

I added it to my chicken gravy and honey glazed fried chicken.

Country ribs for Country Bob.
Accompanied with pan-fried corn & peas and buttermilk mashed potatoes.

Yesterday, made pasta dough, shredded the ribs, added peas and bleu cheese to make ravioli. I got some sage from a neighbor and made a sage beurre blanc, too.

  5. Oh Yeah, love Country Bob's, especially on fries. At one time, Country Bob's had an offer for a free bottle for people who were new to the stuff.

  8. Lucky you got sauce to review Nikki. Imagine they contacted me and asked me if I would review pheromones. Imagine writing how my husband chased me all day around the house (lol). Thanks for visiting me. I planned to visit you as well as I saw you featured at the FFF. Congratulations Nikki. BTW the reason I didn't visit is when moving over to the new site I had to create my blogroll again and got mixed up. So this has now been fixed. Would you believe that I only now learned how to use google reader but don't find the time to empty it.

  9. I want to eat this stuff. I love me some dippin' sauce. There is a Wal-Mart up the road from my house, but I've shied away from it on principle (the principle that being white trash might be contagious). Maybe I'll put on some protective gear (Prada) and run in with my head down long enough to purchase the sauce and run back out.

    Now I just need to magic enough money out of the air to be able to afford Prada...

    cheffy poo: Oh, these people didn't pay me. They paid me in sauce, is all. "It pays to be the sauce, boss..." Oh, you should go to the Wal-Mart and get some. Get some balls and go in there, I mean. Prada or no. Hey, I think draping yourself in some Kenneth Cole or Ralph Lauren would be OK, too.

  16. I don't think there is anything on this page that doesn't look really delicious with or without the sauce.

    Maybe it wouldn't work in cake, but I'll bet it would work in pie.

    heather: the little raviolis came out thicker than I would have liked. I rolled rolled rolled and I got fed up and just started cutting circles, not caring if they were thick. Why I torture myself w/o a pasta maker...I DO NOT KNOW.

    don: Thanks! The raviolis were my favorite next to the ribs. I coated them in salt, pepper, paprika, and granulated sugar before searing them. I have to try that again.

    candy: Me too. I'm glad there's another bottle in my cabinet!

  22. The closest WalMart is 50 miles away? LUCKY YOU!!! I hate the place, but the prices keep sucking me back in. I'll have to look for Country Bob's now. :)


  23. Vicci: Oh, no...the closest Walmart is like .015 seconds away from the house. The closest Walmart that carries Country Bob's is 50 miles away. I don't like shopping there because I feel like I'm submitting to the evil corp. of America, but what're you gonna do if lemons are 19 cents a pound??
